One-Blue Celebrates Successful First Year of Worldwide Blu-ray Disc Patent Pool
NEW YORK, June 28, 2012 — One-Blue, LLC, will mark the first anniversary of its Blu-ray Disc (BD) product licensing program July 1, 2012, having achieved significant progress establishing a patent pool that promotes a level playing field for licensors and licensees of Blu-ray Disc product patents. Since launching the program 12 months ago, the One-Blue global patent pool has signed on 15 licensors representing the leading providers of Blu-ray, DVD and CD optical storage technology. To date, 88 manufactures are listed as licensed by One-Blue from more than 15 countries.
“One-Blue was created using industry best practices that are designed to ensure equitable terms, fair pricing and the consistent protection of Blu-ray patents for all participants – licensors and licensees – wherever they are located,” said Roel Kramer, CEO of One-Blue. “As the one-stop shop for Blu-ray disc product patents, One-Blue provides essential patent licenses for the overwhelming majority of Blu-ray optical product IP.”
Companies that have joined the One-Blue patent pool as licensors are Cyberlink, Dell, Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard, Hitachi, JVC Kenwood, LG Electronics, Panasonic, Philips, Pioneer, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, Taiyo Yuden and Yamaha. The widespread support the patent pool has received represents yet another milestone in the evolution of the Blu-ray Disc industry and a validation of One-Blue’s innovative approach to patent pooling, which includes per-batch licensing, pre-netting, and product based royalties.
